Bingham Farms, MI, June 30, 2011 - United Physicians today announced that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) has designated 74 United Physicians' primary care practices representing 201 physicians as Patient-Centered Medical Homes - a designation that illustrates our networks commitment to proactive patient engagement and the use of clinical and administrative processes and technology to deliver more coordinated, efficient effective medicine.
"PCMH designation is a major accomplishment, and is obviously the result of the dedication and commitment of all involved," said Mike Williams, M.D., President and CEO of United Physicians. "Earning a PCMH designation represents the type of transformation we all need to make to prepare for the future of healthcare."
This growth equates to a 122% increase in the number of designated practice units from last year and by far overshadows the 55% increase in the overall number of practices that BCBSM designated across the State of Michigan during the same timeframe.
To become a PCMH designated practice, primary care physicians lead a professional healthcare team that tracks and monitors the patient's overall health. Teams make sure that all the patient's healthcare needs are being met by working through their healthcare team to coordinate a patient's prescriptions, therapies, tests and visits to specialists and other healthcare providers.
