Bingham Farms, MI - United Physicians' Board of Directors elected Michael Williams, M.D. as President/CEO of Michigan's largest independent physician organization .

"It is my hope to take my experience as an independent practicing physician and use it to help our network's collective efforts to deliver better, more efficient healthcare."
Prior to his appointment as President/CEO, Dr. Williams also served as a United Physicians Board Member for nine years. He has also served as Chairman of United Physicians' newly-formed Physician Advocacy Cabinet (P.A.C.) - a grass roots effort to promote doctor-to-doctor engagement, exchange, teamwork. Dr. Williams has also been instrumental in the development, adoption and use of Health Information Technology in the United Physicians network of physicians.

His experience and leadership will help our organization continue to transform itself to meet the future needs of healthcare," said Seymour Baxter, M.D., and Chairman of United Physicians Board of Directors.
In addition to his responsibilities with United Physicians, Dr. Williams is also assuming the role of President/CEO of Premier Physicians Network (PPN), a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Physicians. Premier Physicians Network is a multi-specialty group of 1,429 physicians who participate in HMO risk contracts.
Dr. Williams received his undergraduate degree from Albion College in 1987 and his medical degree from Wayne State University in 1991. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Ohio State University Medical Center and Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 1995. Dr. Williams is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics. In addition to his private medical practice, Dr. Williams is a member of the medical staff at Williams Beaumont Hospital in Troy.
In addition to Dr. Williams' appointment, the United Physicians' Board of Directors also designated Steve McClelland, M.D., and Kim Coleman, M.D. as Associate Medical Directors. Dr. McClelland will also be the Chair of the Physician Advocacy Cabinet and Co-Chair of the Medical Management Committee. Additionally, Dr. Coleman will be Co-Chair of the Physician Advocacy Cabinet, serve on the Medical Management Committee and will also be the Physician Lead on United Physicians' efforts in Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's Physician Group Incentive Program and Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) initiatives.
