Generic Use Rate Initiative

Brand-name prescription drugs can be very expensive and are often times cost prohibitive to the patients that need them. In order to help these patients, United Physicians developed the Generic Use Rate Initiative to emphasize the use of generic drugs to lower healthcare costs and improve patient care.

The Generic Use Rate Initiative began in 2005 to promote the use of generic equivalents and generic alternatives whenever medically appropriate. Since the program began, substantial progress among UP physicians has occurred. As a result, physicians are experiencing increased patient satisfaction by reducing out-of-pocket medication expenses for patients, while earning rewards for improving the quality of patient care.
